(departure: 9.00 a.m. – return: 7.30 p.m.)
Spending a day in splendid Ascoli will surprise you: it is one of the most beautiful and momentous cities in Italy. Its historical centre is entirely built out of “travertino” (a type of marble retrieved f
rom the nearby caves), and has at its heart the striking and evocative Piazza del Popolo, in renaissance style. After having walked the splendid hills with their small villages, which remain authentic and little known, you can immerse yourself in the history and the art of this Roman-founded city, “... beautiful as some towns of Southern France, not so much for any monument in particular but fas a whole, the antological quality, the enchantment which comes from nothing and everything. Many styles are present: Roman, Gothic, renaissance, baroque... with churches of stone walls with no windows, a warm grey marble... all ornate, meticulous... (Guido Piovene –Voyage in Italy, 1957)”. » Returning to Ascoli each time is like dreaming... After lunch we will visit Offida, a nice little village, where we can have a beautiful walk before have a wine tasting.
